Beyond the Brew: 4 Craft Beer Myths You Shouldn't Believe

Hey there, beer lovers and curious minds! Today, we're debunking a few myths swirling around the craft beer scene. So, let's dive in with a beer in hand.

The Right Chill for Craft Beer

Ever notice the four tap handles behind our bar, separate from all the rest? These handles pour beer at a cellar temperature of 50 degrees. There's a reason: craft beers often lose their complexity when too cold. A cool, but not ice cold, beer serving temperature allows the intricate flavors and aromas to shine, offering a more expressive tasting experience.

The ‘Ice Cold’ beer marketing campaign of our nation’s largest beer companies is our Head Brewer, Jesse’s, nemesis. While a cold beer on a hot day is undeniably refreshing, too much chill can mute the rich tapestry of flavors brewers work so hard to get into your beer. That's right, take those pint glasses out of the freezer!

Our four taps serving at cellar temperature typically pouring the Bull Kelp ESB, Quarry No. 9 Pale Ale, Power’s Out Nitro Stout, and Black Boar Porter but the lineup does change, so keep an eye out for what's currently flowing.

Dark Beers: Light on Alcohol?

The idea that dark beers are always high in alcohol is a misconception. The truth lies in using dark roasted malts, which color the beer but don’t necessarily produce high alcohol content.

A perfect example of this is our Black Boar Porter; despite its dark appearance, it maintains a mild 4.5% ABV, proving that beer's color isn't an indicator of its strength.

Raising the Bar: Beer’s Sophisticated Side

Now, let's address the age-old fallacy that beer is less sophisticated than wine and spirits. With its humble beginnings, beer might seem like the underdog, but it's packed with history and complexity that rivals any vineyard or distillery's offerings.

The craft beer movement has been pivotal in showcasing beer's versatility and depth, with brewers pushing boundaries through barrel-aging, blending, and introducing novel ingredients. Like fine wine, craft beers are a canvas for creativity and expression, deserving of a spot at the table (or bar) among the most esteemed beverages.

Craft Beer: A Community Brew

Finally, the idea that craft beer is only for snobs couldn't be further from the truth. Our Brewpub, nestled in the heart of the San Juan Islands, is a testament to the spirit of craft beer – it's about exploration, community, and sharing a love for quality brews. Whether you're a seasoned beer lover or new to the scene, there's a place for you here.

So, there you have it – a little clarity in the sometimes murky world of beer myths. Remember, our Brewpub is more than just a place to grab a drink; it's a spot to learn, explore, and connect over a shared love for craft beer. Cheers!
